Why quite often, and please don’t deny it happens, do I arrive in a station say on a local train, and the conductor clearly sees the local arriving, and instead of waiting 30 more seconds so passengers can make connections (and it can go either way local to express or express to local) slams the doors shut. And please, none of this keeping to the schedule. Another 30 seconds cannot make a difference. This is infuriating, especially on a Saturday when the next train doesn’t arrive for 12 minutes even during the day. It should be SOP when a connectingh train comes in to wait 30 seconds for passengers to make the connection.

A real live train conductor from the 4 line is going to answer reader questions in the Times. Will he break the third rail of silence and give us the real answer to the one above? This strap-hanger hopes so.
