LOST CHILD STATION: There is a Lost Child Station at the First Aid Tent. Locate the First Aid Tent at the end of the Museum of Yachting which is on your left as you round the corner to the festival seating area.

Saw the great lineup for the Newport Folk Festival but since the Lost Child Station seems like it for kid's amenities I don't think we'll be making it

Just took a quick look. There are some really nice things going on here. I like the contextual tabs on the right side of the browser anchoring you to options specific to the story The story in Sen. Byrd has  great timeline, so they must have a timeline creation tool handy. I also like the tools section below with it's mention of apps. iPad like in a browser. What do you think?

Better late than never. A great discovery on a colleagues iTunes collection, this is the perfect marriage for me of (fake) Dylan and Dr. Seuss. I missed this whole thing in 2007 when it was both created and then pulled down after a cease and desist order because I wasn't reading much Seuss then. Appropriately enough this image is from a blog for dads. The source for my copy however is secret.

Apple Inc. is now collecting the "precise," "real-time geographic location" of its users' iPhones, iPads and computers.

In an updated version of its privacy policy, the company added a paragraph noting that once users agree, Apple and unspecified "partners and licensees" may collect and store user location data. 

When users attempt to download apps or media from the iTunes store, they are prompted to agree to the new terms and conditions. Until they agree, they cannot download anything through the store.

Rollingstone continuing their general online suck. An article they are publishing causing headlines in the NY Times and it is nowhere to be found on their site. This just continues their recent pattern, publishing good articles by Matt Taibbi and others and not posting them in full.

Knight Foundation Expands Neighborhood News Project - Knight Foundation

The major goal of the projects is to simplify and accelerate adoption of the open source code from a previous Knight-funded project, EveryBlock.com, a $1 million experiment in online journalism that offers geographically relevant news feeds on public records, news articles and other web content for every block in 16 cities. These field tests proved that "hyper-local" civic data can be successfully aggregated by attracting hundreds of thousands of citizens wanting to better understand their neighborhoods by seeing everything from crime reports to restaurant inspections on easy to read maps.

The new open source software, called OpenBlock, will be developed by the non-profit OpenPlans and installed at different-sized newspapers, The Columbia Daily Tribune and the Boston Globe.  The Tribune, in Missouri, will use OpenBlock as a stand-alone website.  The Boston Globe will test widget integration with their broader digital product suite. OpenPlans is a New York-based non-profit which helps build civic infrastructure through open source software. Founded in 1999, OpenPlans partners with forward-thinking organizations and public agencies to develop software initiatives and technology strategies that make cities work better.

Nice stuff. Back in Voyager days we had a project underway for making a CDRom about Ulysses. It showed a clock, a map etc. This could be like the character stats bar he shows in the video. Love the other ideas too about sharing and stats.

Something he doesn't mention but that I've been thinking about is that Amazon should publish a page turner stat gathered from all of the Kindle synchs going on. What are people reading that they can't put down.

Everyone is talking about vuvuzelas, and most people are not happy about them. This is a very important issue! But what is a vuvuzela, you ask, and why does it cause such irritation? We have answers! A "vuvuzela" is the affectionate nickname Venezuelan men use when they refer to the vulvas of their wives or girlfriends. (I kinda just did a quick Google search on that, so it might not be 100% accurate.) As for why they are annoying, we're just gonna let Science field that one. Now you know!

B - "That is the hottest car I've ever seen" She is not usually one to get excited by things but a 1960's Jaguar XKE is indeed hot.

Our neighbor belongs to something called the Classic Car Club which seems to be like a super luxury version of Zip Car. Over the past few weeks he has had a real mini cooper from the 60's,  a Ferrari with a piece of glass over the engine, a Mustang, and a Bentley convertible. I think it is very funny that he just parks them in front of his house (or sometimes mine) with the top down.

After looking at their site I will admit that the idea of having an International membership that enables you to pick up an old Jaguar MK2 or an Aston Martin, to fulfill James Bond fantasies, while driving around Scotland does seem kind of cool. 

Watching a South African friend move a soccer ball with such grace and control away from two three year olds made me realize that I had no memory of being able to move like that, and even though I played on the varsity in high school I couldn't play at all.

Rooney Learns Yiddish To Fool Refs Mazel Tov schmuck, tuches lecker, potzer, that was a clean tackle, feh.

Since the refs in the upcoming world cup games are on the lookout for 20 powerful English cursewords players are turning to other languages. Wayne Rooney was spotted with Leo Rosten's The Joy of Yiddish the other day practicing, "meesa masheena putz".. Let's just hope he can stay one step ahead of the refs.
